Swimming Lessons

We've been busy these last two weeks doing swimming lessons in town for Kevin and Kade. They both mostly liked it - but Kade more so than Kevin. Kevin was in Level 2 and this being Kade's first year, he was in Level 1. They both did well and learned a lot, and of course had the most fun when they were allowed to jump in - whether off the side or off the diving board. We start off with the boys waiting for their lessons to start.Kevin doing his superman glide.And Kade having his turn.Kade doing his starfish floats.And the favorite - the high diving board. Kevin didn't hesitate a bit. He'd been gearing up for it for quite a while - their class didn't go to the diving board pool until the second week, so he was good and ready.. . . falling (very confidently if I may say)And Kade -who started with the little diving board, but was pretty determined to be as brave as Kevin and do the big one too.He climbed to the top, looked down, and promptly said,"I don't want to do this!". So his teacher came up and gave him a bit of encouragement, and he did it (though he looks a little frightened). He was so proud of himself, and couldn't wait to tell Kevin.

And the good news is - they both passed their levels. We are very proud of them. Yeah boys!!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Something Old
Jo recently celebrated her 30th birthday and we all met together at Swiss Chalet for a surprise dinner for her. It's always nice to get together for a nice evening out like that, so thanks for giving us the excuse to do it Jo!

This is just a picture taken of Carrie's front porch. I always think it looks so nice, and since the dresser thing is an antique, I thought it fit well in this category - and it actually happens to be old, unlike Jo. I have to cover myself here, because I'm really not that far behind!

Something New
The young couples from our church recently got together for an evening of golf, and of course fellowship. As the sport was relatively new to a lot of us (especially the girls), it was a lot of fun and lots of laughs were shared.
Group 1 - Ken, Dan, Jonathan Group 2 - Greg, Josh, Joe, Piet
Group 3 - Rich, James and Adrian
Linda, Mel, Steph, Mary Beth, and Jen waiting and watching as the first group of girls teed off.

Something Borrowed
My sister Carrie borrowed my boys for a few days last week. The boys had a blast there and were not neccesarily thrilled when I came to pick them up. One of their favorite activities is driving the four wheeler, which Kevin became rather adept at during his visit.
Something Blue
We recently joined the ranks of those who have invested in one of these small but efficient cooling devices. The boys and Jonathan LOVE having it, and Kylie is just learning that water is something that can be enjoyed. She went in today for the first time without screaming with panic!

Filling in the Cracks of June

Since there were many June events that haven't made it into a post, I thought I would fill in the holes of our lives in June in this post of random activities or pictures taken throughout the month.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We finished school at the end of May and I had promised the kids (and Kate) that we would take a "field trip" to Uncle Steve and Aunt Kate's goat farm when school was done. So we went over for the day and had a great time visiting, playing soccer (OUCH), and touring the barns.
Kylie was not overly impressed by the tour.
Some brand new babies.
Kade- getting braver, and proud of it!
And tough ole Kevin (the look says it all - Big deal picking up a goat)
Evan and Kylie on Father's Day. (Awww:))
Summer came over for the day while Rich & MB went to a wedding.
And of course they were happiest with their mouths full of food. These girls love to eat - especially junk food!
Kevin and Timothy.
Peek - A - Boo!
Jonathan had the Monday before Canada Day off work, so we thought we should do something fun for the kids, so we headed of to the park with the bikes and roller blades. Then the kids cooled off on the splash pad - though it wasn't a very warm day to begin with. Last year we couldn't get Kade onto the pad at all. He had a lot more fun this time.
Kevin getting doused by a bucket. . . .
. . .and loving it!
Kylie seems to have a fear of tunnels. . . .
. . . but certainly liked a lot of the other "riding toys".
These kind of days have a way of tiring a hard working man right out!
Jonathan tried to "buck" the boys of this bucking dinosaur. (It did get a little wild:))
All tired out.
Kade on the new climbing wall . . .
. . . and making it to the top!
Jonathan and Kevin on the spinning web.
And although not really in June, we'll include our Canada Day afternoon at the beach with Josh and Steph, MaryBeth, and Dad and Mom VD. The day was beautiful - although cold for swimming, though that never seems to matter to kids.
Kade and Jeremy
Kevin and Ryan.
Kylie - who seemed to enjoy the beach - although she was always very dirty -and did NOT like the cold water!
. . . and I think that just about covers it!
