Soccer 2016

Another highly anticipated soccer season has come and gone.  We all look forward to this season and though it makes for busy nights and weeks, we love it!
Kevin had another good year and this year had the unique privilege of having his mother as one of his coaches :).  The coach assigned to his team had requested to be an assistant coach as he does shift work, so he asked the parents on the team if any would be willing to help him out. My friend Jen came up with the great plan of her being the "yeller" and me being the "organizer".  We had a lot of fun together and got to know a great group of kids!
Teenagers scare me sometimes, but this team was truly a really nice group of kids which I am really thankful for!
Kevin loves soccer and I consider him a fairly fun player to watch. He really dislikes watching from the sidelines - especially if the play starts taking a downward turn.  This is when I would get lots of feedback and "advice" from him as he stood alongside me on the sidelines.
As an added bonus, the team came in first place for the season!!! I think they had only 2 losses over the whole season.  The credit goes to the team  . . .and we were pretty proud of them!
As a side note, this very same team played in the year end tournament and though they played very close games, they lost 2 out of 3.  Interesting how that can go!
Kade too is loving soccer and is really coming into his own on the field.  I also really enjoy watching him play and he loves to be on the field. He is a reluctant sitter and would gladly play the whole game too.
He played with a number of talented players and his team ended up coming in second place in the season.
Kade loves to be forward and dislikes defense unless he has a sore leg :)

Kylie.  Hmmm.  She sure looks pretty out there.
Kylie enjoys soccer, but I'm pretty sure she loves to bug her coach, hang out with her friends, and eat snacks just a little bit more. She seems quite content to sit on the sidelines and copy everything her coach says.
It is a good thing that Devin and Summer were on the same team so that Jonathan and I both had alternative entertainment if necessary.  No. It wasn't that bad.  She actually was kind of close to maybe scoring a goal once or twice.  It is fun to watch your kids no matter what, but her games were certainly not intense. I don't think they did a whole lot of winning either.
This was Karter's first year of soccer and boy was he ready!! He has the definite advantage of having older brothers and you could really tell!
On a team that was filled with reluctant players at times, Karter got lots of field time.  He knows the game and that makes a big difference at this age.
Most games he would score between 2 and 6 goals and he plays a fairly mean defense too. The first couple weeks he played with extreme passion and almost looked scary with the intensity he played with.  That did wear off after a while. Kevin was one of his coaches and after Karter scored a number of goals, Kevin encouraged him to pass the ball.  So he would take it down the field and stop near the other goalie and look around confusedly for another player who often were no where to be found (at least not in the right area!) Such is soccer at age 4 and 5!!
Karter was super pumped about soccer nights and would wait very patiently (or not) for Wednesdays to come around.  He would get himself dressed all by himself and never needed encouragement to be ready to go.

When soccer is over for the season it is always a little sad, but since it ends pretty much in time for our vacation, it seems to be a good time . . . and then school starts and we can't really miss it too much because other things start up and keep us busy . .. . but we are always excited for registration and then the start of another season. It's one of my favorite things about summer!

Kittens

One sunny Sunday morning in late June, I woke up to find 6 tiny kittens under our couch on the deck. I thought two were dead as they were far from their mother ,but fortunately they still had breath in them and I snuggled them in with the rest and it didn't take long for them to dry off and gain a bit of strength.
A week or so later, they opened their eyes and started to get cute . . .
The kids (and Arianna) all picked out their kitty.  Little did they know we were not keeping all 6 kittens!
Thankfully Ashley was in need of two kitties and just before camping at the beginning of August, she came to pick them up.
We now have four kitties. The momma disappeared while we were camping, so 4 seems somewhat manageable. They are underfoot a LOT and are somewhat annoying, but the kids really love them and they are not a lot of work, so for now we will allow four. I don't really worry about having four forever. Our track record is not that great!
This one looks just slightly irritated!
This is my favorite. Her name is Peaches and she belongs to Kylie.
This is Kevin's kitty and has ear issues:) First the ear was bent way back. We finally got that fixed and then the other kitties started chewing on it and her ear was disappearing.  It seems to be all healed now, but it is still not very normal.
It has been a long time since we had kittens, and it is fun to see them romp and wrestle and have fun together. It is not so fun to eat lunch outside with four kitties trying to climb your legs and steal your food. It is fun to see Konnor with the kittens. He will make sure are cats that are used to human beings and can take a lot of abuse:)

Port Burwell 2016

No rain. No pain. No gain.
That is the story of this vacation.
NO RAIN!!!! We could hardly believe it.  We actually had not a single drop of rain our entire week. This is the week we without fail get dumped on and end up crowded under the canopy trying to pass the hours away.
No rain is wonderful. It really does make a really wonderful vacation. We had a wonderful week as family and the cousins played together really well too. Weeks on vacation always fly by and even the kids are noticing this trend now!
Summer, Anna, and Kylie with their ponytails and their bikes. These girls had great adventures and have great imaginations. They packed a picnic and headed out for an hour or two to play.  They are pretty self sufficient and have fun making new friends at the park too.
SEVEN BEAUTIFUL BEACH DAYS!!! (and that doesn't even include Sunday). Unlike other years, we did the beach the day we arrived and the day we left because it was just that great.
Konnor loved playing with a shovel and pail and it kept him well occupied.
Jackson - aka Trouble :)

The visitor to our campsite. I only saw him in the daytime, though I heard him at night a time or two!
The mosquitos were the biggest downside of this vacation and we had a number of funny looking kids at various points throughout the week. Bug spray was our friend.
Uncle Richard brought a Seadoo this year and we had a blast with it. This is where the no pain - no gain part comes in.  If you really want to have the full experience, you need to have a bit of a wild ride, which means you may notice you have a neck the next day. No pain? No gain!

The sand was HOT!! We actually burnt our feet a few times getting to the beach. The lack of a boardwalk made for a carefully calculated trip. I hate sand and shoes/flip flops so I braved (if you want to call it bravery:)) the heat each day. Others were smarter and used footwear. I just had to RUN to save my feet.
Savannah, Blake, Kyra, and Karter playing in the sand.
Hunter, Landon, and Tim - these three boys played so well together all week too. It was fun to watch them hang out and be boys together.

Kyle with a smile. (always)
Kade knee boarding.
Kyle and Travis spraying Opa with water.
Kyra and Saige collecting and examining shells.
Ella, Karter, and Saige. (Does Karter look excited for this ride?!)
Konnor
Hilde the Zucchini baby. Summer brought this zucchini back to camp with her after church on Sunday.  Hilde was their constant companion for the next few days. She rode bikes, she went to the park, she rode the seadoo, she went to the beach, she got a mouth so she could have a soother, then it became a little more extravagant to the point where she was going to need diapers . . . she was a lot of fun!!

I love this picture!! Saige and Ella sharing a conversation.
The tube - and LOTS of kids!

Kade.

What a wonderful vacation. It is so great to get away - even if it is close to home.  We love being together and sharing this time together. It is so fun to watch the cousins play and become even closer. It is neat to see them use their imaginations and just to see them enjoying God's wonderful creation.
So thank you to this family for another great year.  Thank you for another round of great memories.
