Family Fun in February

February is not a favorite month for many. It is stuck right in the middle of winter at a point when we really start hoping for spring, but realize it could still be a long way off. Personally, I have always enjoyed February, but I was not complaining when a holiday was introduced to break up the month, the winter, or the big space before the next holiday; help families bond; or further someone's political ambitions. Whatever the reason, Family Day was enjoyed by our family and though we shouldn't need an excuse to celebrate family, it was a great excuse for us to spend time together.

At the beginning of February, we took the opportunity on a sunny Sunday to go to the lake. It was beautiful there and not too cold, so we went for a little walk out on the lake. It was only about a week or two later, when the ice broke and there was major flooding in the village!

And all of us together.

These next few pictures were taken in our yard after the ice/snow storm which looked extremely beautiful in the morning.

"Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! . . He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; He casts out His hail like morsels; Who can stand before His cold? He sends out His word and melts them; He causes winds to blow and waters to flow." Psalm 147:12, 15-18

Kylie before church on Sunday morning. Her hair is really growing and this was the first time we put a barrette in it. We thought it was really cute:)

We also had our teen club sleepover this month. On the Friday night, we went to London to swim. The kids loved it and Kevin and Kade both did really well. They haven't forgotten the things they learned in Florida yet!

This is one of those rock walls you climb up - except here when you get to the top, you just let go. Kevin was bound and determined to try it this time. He made it about half way. Below is Matt and Jonathan racing up.

Kevin and Kade visiting Landon for the first time.

After the Teen Club sleepover and our visit to Landon and Beth, we headed off to Steve and Jo's for the weekend. We had a really good time there as always. Their house is so perfect for entertaining guests, and we are really going to miss it when they move. We had a nice visit though just relaxing, playing games, eating junk food (and good food too!) and Jonathan helped out with some electrical things as well. Our kids really had a really good time too - racing around, playing bomb tag(?), building castles, playing games (Allie and Kate taught Kevin how to play chess!), and just having fun.

Isaac and Kylie - look at the blue eyes!

Kade and Faith - these two played together quite a bit and had a lot of fun.

And Kevin and Kate! These two remind me a lot of eachother and they were really cute together too - as we were leaving, I happened to see Kevin giving Kate our phone number - sure enough we got the phone call a few days later! (Very cute - although Kevin needed a bit of prompting on the art of conversation!:))

So, I have really enjoyed my February. It has been a very busy month, especially for Jonathan, but it has been fun. We did fun things, enjoyed the snow and ice (we had a nice patch of ice in the back yard which the boys skated on quite a bit), and had some great family moments -- and that brings me to the end of our family fun in February!

Welcoming Landon!

Congratulations to Ken and Beth on the birth of their first child -- A BOY!

Landon John was born on Friday February 8, 2008 and weighed in at 7lbs 12oz. He is a real cutie! There is nothing like holding a brand new baby. I walked in with my 20lb Kylie, and then held Landon. It's hard to believe just how tiny a newborn is. They sure are a precious and wonderful gift from the LORD. We pray that God will bless Ken and Beth with wisdom and strength as they raise this little boy.

The proud parents!
