Another highly anticipated soccer season has come and gone. We all look forward to this season and though it makes for busy nights and weeks, we love it!
Kevin had another good year and this year had the unique privilege of having his mother as one of his coaches :). The coach assigned to his team had requested to be an assistant coach as he does shift work, so he asked the parents on the team if any would be willing to help him out. My friend Jen came up with the great plan of her being the "yeller" and me being the "organizer". We had a lot of fun together and got to know a great group of kids!
Teenagers scare me sometimes, but this team was truly a really nice group of kids which I am really thankful for!
Kevin loves soccer and I consider him a fairly fun player to watch. He really dislikes watching from the sidelines - especially if the play starts taking a downward turn. This is when I would get lots of feedback and "advice" from him as he stood alongside me on the sidelines.
As an added bonus, the team came in first place for the season!!! I think they had only 2 losses over the whole season. The credit goes to the team . . .and we were pretty proud of them!
As a side note, this very same team played in the year end tournament and though they played very close games, they lost 2 out of 3. Interesting how that can go!
Kade too is loving soccer and is really coming into his own on the field. I also really enjoy watching him play and he loves to be on the field. He is a reluctant sitter and would gladly play the whole game too.
He played with a number of talented players and his team ended up coming in second place in the season.
Kade loves to be forward and dislikes defense unless he has a sore leg :)
Kylie. Hmmm. She sure looks pretty out there.
Kylie enjoys soccer, but I'm pretty sure she loves to bug her coach, hang out with her friends, and eat snacks just a little bit more. She seems quite content to sit on the sidelines and copy everything her coach says.
It is a good thing that Devin and Summer were on the same team so that Jonathan and I both had alternative entertainment if necessary. No. It wasn't that bad. She actually was kind of close to maybe scoring a goal once or twice. It is fun to watch your kids no matter what, but her games were certainly not intense. I don't think they did a whole lot of winning either.
This was Karter's first year of soccer and boy was he ready!! He has the definite advantage of having older brothers and you could really tell!
On a team that was filled with reluctant players at times, Karter got lots of field time. He knows the game and that makes a big difference at this age.
Most games he would score between 2 and 6 goals and he plays a fairly mean defense too. The first couple weeks he played with extreme passion and almost looked scary with the intensity he played with. That did wear off after a while. Kevin was one of his coaches and after Karter scored a number of goals, Kevin encouraged him to pass the ball. So he would take it down the field and stop near the other goalie and look around confusedly for another player who often were no where to be found (at least not in the right area!) Such is soccer at age 4 and 5!!
Karter was super pumped about soccer nights and would wait very patiently (or not) for Wednesdays to come around. He would get himself dressed all by himself and never needed encouragement to be ready to go.
When soccer is over for the season it is always a little sad, but since it ends pretty much in time for our vacation, it seems to be a good time . . . and then school starts and we can't really miss it too much because other things start up and keep us busy . .. . but we are always excited for registration and then the start of another season. It's one of my favorite things about summer!
