Konnor at 1 Month

We are settling into life with a newborn quite nicely! Konnor is a very easy baby in most ways and I am getting my sleep! What more could you ask for with a  newborn?!

 We are not scheduling whatsoever.  Konnor has been taking his time gaining weight and therefore we were ordered to feed whenever he indicates he would like to be fed. That is working out fine. Sometimes that makes for very little productivity (actually a lot of times!), but they are only this little for so very short a time, so we will worry about dusting a little later;)

He hasn't been weighed since 2.5 weeks, but at that point he was 8lbs 14oz. Our goal was to have him back at his birth weight (8lbs 15.5oz) by three weeks. I think we made it!  I'm quite certain he is growing just fine. He is already outgrowing some of his tiny sleepers which is kind of sad, but kind of important too!

 He actually does really well through the night and goes quite long stretches. That's about as detailed as my sleepy brain will allow me to record.  I'm not really a clock watcher since I'm not scheduling, but I know that most nights he only nurses once or twice.

 You may have thought from my Wordless Wednesday post that he is a very sad baby. He's not!! See this beautiful smile he gave me at just 8 days old?!  (real smile or not, I think it's pretty cute!)

 I can finally get my last picture above the bed hung (well . . once I get it printed!).  I think I painted these canvases when I just found out I was expecting and they got hung once we announced the pregnancy. So we have had that blank canvas waiting a long time!

 Kylie is a pretty proud big sister.  The only thing she has said about him being a boy (as opposed to a girl as she really hoped for) was, "I prayed that the baby would be a girl . . .".

She loves to show him off and thinks everybody should be as enthralled with him as she is.

 She is a pretty good helper too.  She is often the one who gets called upon to hold him when he is fussy and if I am trying to make supper, or am busy with something else. She mostly is willing . . . though she does have a time limit!

 Konnor loves to be held and I'm pretty sure would rarely cry if we held him all day.  As much as we'd love for that to happen . . . it isn't really a possibility.

Jonathan has the hardest time listening to him cry.  He will usually rescue him instantly if he is able.  The rest of us I guess are pretty used to it.  Yesterday I was driving the kids home from school, and Konnor cried for the last 10 minutes (he was starving!).  Not one child even seemed to clue in or care that he was crying. No one tried to soothe him or get him to be quiet.  I guess the tuning each other out thing I've been trying to teach them when they are annoyed by each other, has finally kicked in!

 Our first family picture.  It definitely gets more challenging as you add more bodies to the picture . . . and it usually has very little to do with the newest addition!

 Konnor can finally make it through a diaper change without crying and is even starting to like the bath - except the getting in and out part. He likes to be clothed and warm -- guess that makes good sense!

 He does take a soother quite well and it seems to be getting used a bit more every day.  The first few weeks I wasn't really supposed to use it b/c he needed to concentrate on eating rather than sucking a soother!  This is my first time having two children with a soother . . . not to mention two children in diapers!! (we are going to seriously work on that at the first hint of warm weather!!!  Karter has absolutely NO interest in toilet training at this point. . . . but it is seriously time!)

 This is what happens when Kevin and Kade are asked to hold Konnor for a few minutes.

Perhaps, despite his name, he will not be a hockey player!

 But they can try. 

The administrator at our local arena tells me that we just need to have one more kid and we'll have a full hockey team - three forwards, two defence, and a goalie.  (perhaps Jonathan can fill one position?!)

 The two look a likes??? I don't see it as much as I used to . . . but it still seems to be what we hear most.

 Baptism . . .he was perfectly behaved. Thanks to Aunt Kate for holding him.

We had a very powerful reminder of our obligation as parents to train our children and to lay lasting foundations.  I've said it to a few people . . . It's somewhat easy to say yes to those questions at the baptismal font when you are looking at your newborn. It gets a whole lot harder and more serious when you look out at your 13 and 10 and 7 year old!!  May we be in constant pray for our children and always at "work" training  and teaching them and doing our utmost!

 Karter has been really good with Konnor . . .until this week. Now he seems to think he is big enough to carry him and hold him.  I have to be very watchful now.  I have caught him picking him up too many times already and though he is as careful as an almost three year old could be, it is not really preferable!

 He does like to hold him though (apparently the feeling is not reciprocated!), and would like a picture taken every time he holds him.  (that doesn't happen unless the camera is very handy!)

We'll see if these guys end up being best buddies some day!

 Konnor is a very good traveller. When we are on the go, he sleeps most of the time. He has slept through every church service so far I think and does well with groceries etc. too. That is a big bonus for me!

He makes the best grumpy and old man concerned faces.   He often looks quite concerned about life.   He may get wrinkles at the same rate as his parents if he keeps it up ;0)

But he also has his very relaxed and contented times which are very sweet.

Well. . . I know this will likely become a common refrain, but I can't believe he's already a month!  It's gone super fast and super well.  We love him like crazy already and are so thankful for him!
