We Took the Plunge!

It feels like we've been discussing this on and off for a while.  Should we take the scissors to her hair or keep it long.  She'd have a few bad hair days . . . .days when there were many tears as we took the brush to it, mornings when there were extreme grumps even at the sight of the brush, and days when there were just a lot of knots and/or craziness.  And we'd say, "YES! We are going to cut it short." and we'd be excited about it.  But the opportunity never quite came at that moment . . . and then LO!  a few fabulous hair days! Beautiful curls, wonderful wave, or just nicely straightened hair.  And we'd say, "Oh man.  We can't cut this.  It will be far too sad."   And then we start the process and its accompanying thoughts all over again.
Another detail to this saga was that if we did chop it off, we wanted to be able to donate it . . and it was kind of borderline in length.  Most places want 10 or 12 inches and hers wasn't there yet . . . and her hair didn't really seem to be growing anymore. We've done a few cleanup trims over the last year, but I feel like it's been this length for a while.  There are a few places that I know will take 8" hair, so with that in mind, we finally took the plunge.
Kylie was a little nervous . . .

Aunt Mel told her she was done after she chopped the braid and Kylie made this face and then got ready to hop off her chair.
I think she only asked about 23 times in the next 15 minutes, "Now are you done?" "Are you done yet?" "Are you almost done???!!"

We did get done and she has really been enjoying the shortness of it.  When I did her hair this morning and ran the brush through it, she said, "This feels good. It doesn't even hurt."  Marvels!
She has had no regrets at all so far!

Here is our beauty.  Jonathan has dubbed her Tamika. (Can you guess why?)
Obviously, still quite the same girl . . . even though the hair is different!

There are definitely moments when I feel a little sad about her long hair being gone, but we love the new look quite well too. . . and of course we know it'll grow back . . . probably rather quickly.  There is no doubt at all that we love the healthiness and ease of brushing and doing it.  And we are happy to help out a good cause by putting her hair in the mail and sending it to an organization who helps those who need wigs.  Every little part helps. (Though when I told Kevin and Kade that they would use the hair to be made into a wig, they laughed and said they couldn't wait to see that!!  I explained that it doesn't work QUITE like that. Funny boys. Also, Kevin is certain that Kylie was more beautiful before the haircut . . . )

  2. It looks great! It's been a year since Mary Beth has had her hair trimmed... way too long. She hates having her hair done so I'd love to get her's cut soon. But daddy really likes long hair. Maybe I should make Chris do her hair everyday so he can deal with the tears :)

  3. I love it! She looks great! Keziah also will be getting a big haircut once the incisions have healed up, so that the parts that were shaved will match up. Makes me sad in one way, but like you say, our girls' hair grows fast!
